I Create My Own Reality

I'm exploring the fact that if I create my own reality then I can also change it. In the process of having this thought, I reminded myself of Joe Dispenza's words from the hit film "What the BLEEP Do We Know?" His comments are reprinted in entirety below:

"I wake up in the morning and I consciously create my day the way I want it to happen. Now sometimes, because my mind is examining all the things that I need to get done, it takes me a little bit to settle down and get to the point of where I'm actually intentionally creating my day. But here's the thing: When I create my day and out of nowhere little things happen that are so unexplainable, I know that they are the process or the result of my creation.

And the more I do that, the more I build a neural net in my brain that I accept that that's possible. (This) gives me the power and the incentive to do it the next day.

"So if we're consciously designing our destiny, and if we're consciously from a spiritual standpoint throwing in with the idea that our thoughts can affect our reality or affect our life -- because reality equals life -- then I have this little pact that I have when I create my day. I say, 'I'm taking this time to create my day and I'm infecting the quantum field. Now if (it) is in fact the observer's watching me the whole time that I'm doing this and there is a spiritual aspect to myself, then show me a sign today that you paid attention to any one of these things that I created, and bring them in a way that I won't expect, so I'm as surprised at my ability to be able to experience these things. And make it so that I have no doubt that it's come from you,' and so I live my life, in a sense, all day long thinking about being a genius or thinking about being the glory and the power of God or thinking about being unconditional love.

"I'll use living as a genius, for example. And as I do that during parts of the day, I'll have thoughts that are so amazing, that cause a chill in my physical body, that have come from nowhere. But then I remember that that thought has an associated energy that's produced an effect in my physical body. Now that's a subjective experience, but the truth is is that I don't think that unless I was creating my day to have unlimited thought, that that thought would come."

***

I'm starting small, but I'm intentionally asking to see things in my daily life. And, the thing is, that I'm seeing them. This makes me think that I should move onto bigger things. So, onto bigger things it is. Will keep you all posted. In the meantime, try the same experiment and let me know what you bring into your worlds.

Hi Kel,

I too am working on this, but I have SUCH a struggle with it.

Ugh ....

Hi Patia,

I hear you. Sometimes I feel like I take one step forward, two steps back. Still, there are other days where I feel like I take leaps forward and no steps back. Odd dance, isn't it?

I think that after a while the struggle with vanish. Still, what to do with the struggle?

Walk through it, methinks! I'm with ya, sista!

Warning: Long!!

I agree with a lot of what Joe Dispenza says (I have the 5 DVD set of BLEEP!), but not with what he says is going on. I agree that you can ‘create’ your day as he says, and that the more you do it, the more you realise that you can do it. But I don’t think he’s ‘infecting the quantum field’. That way of saying things implies that there’s this thing called a ‘quantum field’ which is ‘out there’ and which I can talk to as ‘the observer watching me the whole time’ (like ‘God’) because it has nothing to do with me, i.e. is completely separate from me.

I don’t agree with that.

I believe that what is happening is all taking place in that wonderful, mysterious, incredibly powerful and almost totally unknown set of ongoing processes we call our ‘mind’. There’s a saying attributed to the Buddha: ‘It’s your mind that creates this world.’ In fact, it should be ‘It’s your mind that creates your world.’ Our world—our environment—is entirely mediated to us by our minds. My mind is not the same as yours and therefore neither is my world. As one Zen writer has said, if you and I are sitting down and between us is a table with a cup on it, and we both look at the cup, we see different cups—because our points of view are different, the lighting is different for each of us, and also because what we look at is different. You may look at the colour, I may look at the shape, and so on. But we can never, never see the same cup because we are not and can never be the same person with the same point of view both physically and mentally and emotionally.

We ‘create’ our day by priming our minds to look for certain things. There is a saying that ‘Chance favours the prepared mind.’ There’s no such thing as chance; but if you have primed your mind to ‘see’ certain things, be they ideas or colours, then when those things are somewhere within your perceptual area, you will see them, although you might have completely missed them if you hadn’t prepared your mind to connect with exactly that kind of thing. These thoughts don’t ‘come from nowhere’—they come from your own mind. You just didn’t know they were there until you asked your mind to find them for you.

I’ve been reading Malcolm Gladwell’s book Blink about rapid cognition, and in my opinion much of the research he quotes supports this viewpoint, as does a lot of the work currently being done on the ‘mind-brain’ connection.

So by ‘intentionally asking to see things in your daily life’, what you’re doing is priming your mind that these are the kinds of things you want to see, and so you perceive them where you would have missed them otherwise. They were always there. It isn’t as if suddenly they came into being in a miraculous response to your intentional asking. But you just didn’t see them earlier because you were not prepared to see them, you weren’t paying the right kind of attention.

Equally, by deciding in the morning to behave in a certain way (e.g. making a positive impact, even in the smallest way, on everyone you meet), you will find lots of opportunities to do this. And it will be easy. Some of the research Gladwell mentions (chapter 6) has to do with facial expressions. Not only do facial expressions reveal inner emotional states, they can also create inner emotional states. Someone who smiles a lot may do so because s/he is happy; but also s/he is happy because s/he smiles a lot. So if you decide in the morning to smile at everyone you meet that day, at the end of the day you will feel much happier yourself; and if you continue doing this every day, you will continue to feel happier, until smiling and feeling happy has become a habit. You have built a ‘neural net’… but it all happened in your mind, not in some ‘quantum field’ out there.

Minds are wonderful. You're doing great!

Fascinating stuff, Margaret. I especially like the cup example. Brilliant!

But what I wonder is how much ability we have to create tangible things in our life, like love and wealth.

How tangible is love, Patia? What is the love that you want to create in your life? The only way I know of to 'create love' in my life is to be loving. Love attracts love; if I am loving, I become lovable; and if I'm lovable, I will be loved--or possibly, I won't need to feel loved any more because I have made my world into love.

'Wealth' is another difficult word. Here an alternative one--prosperity (also sometimes referred to as 'abundance'). To me, being prosperous means having enough for my needs. So in order to assess my degree of prosperity, I first have to decide on what I need (or desire--not the same thing) to be comfortable. For some, it's large amounts of money, big house, big car, etc. For others, it's modest sustainable living growing their own veggies and just doing enough paid employment to pay the bills. There are all kinds of combinations that make up a lifestyle. I have a modest fixed income; I've been a student for many years and now that I've finished being a student, I'm not sure that I want so much to get a job as to have time to think about all I've learned and just BE in the world. I can afford to do that because I live within a relatively inexpensive economy and also I share expenses with my husband. I consider myself prosperous; some of my friends consider me poor; some of my friends consider me well-off.

Once you've decided on what level of income you want, you need to open your mind to all the possibilities for earning that income. This means that some of your favourite ideas may have to be abandoned because they just won't get the amount of money you want. This is where 'chance favours the prepared mind' again--but the mind must be open to all available options.

Similarly with love, you have to be open to all kinds of love which comes in all kinds of packages, not just the kind you think you like.

This is another long post and I'm beginning to feel as if I've hijacked Kelly's blog. However I hope I've given you something to think about. I value your comments.

Margaret!!! You have left much food for thought here and I've been digesting it all these past few days. I think you're right...that Dispenza's angle is limiting but it works for him as a Quantam physicist.

I'm curious, though. Do you see there being a difference between the mind and the brain?

Is the mind, then, something which we bring into this world with us? Perhaps akin to "soul" or the part of us which is US...the part of us we take with us when we graduate here and move on elsewhere?

I think you are right...that we do prime our minds to look for things. For example, I may decide that I want to see the Jaguar on the road as I drive. It's a rare enough car that it will be telling when I spot it. So, because that is my intention, I see lots of Jaguars. However, what came first? The desire to see the Jaguar or subconsciously knowing somehow that there would be more Jaguars on the road that day.

I wonder how much we tune into and how much tunes into us.

I think there is also where the vibrational discussion fits in. When I choose to be happier and smile more often, I will naturally attract more of that into my life...whether by looking for it in others or because I am affecting those around me...calling out their higher energy vibrations, too.

Regardless, I am having great fun with this!!!

Hi Patia,

Yes, we can bring more wealth and abundance into our lives! I absolutely believe it; however, we have to be open to the ways in which it will find us.

I have been manifesting more financial abundance into my life but I didn't know that it would take the form of working night shift 6 days a week, plus holidays! Still, it's such a good turn and the money just keeps pouring in.

I wasn't expecting this but it's been exactly what I needed!!! =)

So, my advice? Keep putting the desire out there and expect for it to be answered. Just keep an open mind when the answer comes.

Lastly, have you created a vision board yet? HIGHLY recommend it. I have one on my closet door and I've been adding to it as I discover and hone my present/future lives. I look at it daily and today I looked at it and realized that so much of it was coming true.

AMAZING!!!

Big love and hugs, Kel

Margaret!

If my blog affords space for sharing thoughts, share away. No worries about hijacking it. This the reason why it's here to begin with!!!

Blessings, Kel
