when the night was quiet
they slipped into its dark places,
searching for the perseid meteor shower.
"i've never seen a meteor,"
he confessed,
"so i don't know exactly what
to look for."
"you'll know it
when you see it,"
she said mysteriously.
"just wait. it's ephemeral magic."
and as cassiopeia danced above them
a bright streak grazed the sky
and they exhaled both awe and wonder.
"now," she paused,
"close your eyes and make a wish."
so there they stood,
shrouded in darkness, in air that
moved like summer lilies
and made silent, private wishes that
now found wings on a celestial object.
they slipped into its dark places,
searching for the perseid meteor shower.
"i've never seen a meteor,"
