it had been a day
of blessed personal news
and sad news from others.

her heart was heavy
with the pain others carried
and it left her feeling
restless and unsettled.

elusive dreams carried
her into the night and,

as she drove into work,

she glanced up into the clear night sky
and wondered how there
could be equal parts peace
and chaos in the world.

and then a flash
as a shooting star lit up
the sky like a fleeting firework,
